Ready or Not takes place in the fictional city of Red Fest, where the player assumes the role of a police officer part of an elite special forces team known as the "E.R.C.O." (E.R.C.O.).
The game begins with a major operation where E.R.C.O. officers must control and apprehend a gang of criminals known as "Seshi". During the operation, the officers encounter violence, difficult tactical decisions, and risky situations. They also uncover mysterious connections between the "Seshi" and local political forces, indicating corruption in the city.

As the story of Ready or Not unfolds, the player encounters various missions where they must complete various tasks, such as freeing hostages, apprehending or eliminating dangerous criminals, searching crime scenes, and investigating evidence.
During Ready or Not, the player will meet a variety of characters, including their partner in the ERCO crew and members of the Sesh gang. During the game, the player may uncover secrets that connect them to the ongoing events and discover the real perpetrators of the crimes in the city of Red Fest.
